Eligibility Specialist

Position: Full-time Eligibility Specialist
Pay Rate: $21 per hour
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week.

Overview: Enroll uninsured patients in the State of Hawaii Medicaid (Med-QUEST) program or the Federal Health Insurance Marketplace, and provide education on additional health insurance assistance programs made available through Expanded Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act. Must attend and pass the VolinCore class offered by the Department of Public Safety, which allows entry into all Oahu correctional facilities.

General Duties (include but are not limited to):

  • Maintain certifications as a Kokua with MQD and Certified Application Counselor for the Federal Marketplace.
  • Schedule patients for Eligibility and Pu’uhonua-related appointments.
  • Educate patients on government health insurance programs, such as Med-QUEST, Federal Marketplace, Medicare and assist in determining program eligibility.
  • Attend and speak at public events regarding health insurance options available through the Federal Marketplace.
  • Assist the Director of Pu’uhonua Prison Program with pre/post re-entry into the community.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Abilities:

  • Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in the healthcare or nonprofit sector preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced environment, with competency in current software applications and general computer skills.
  • Ability to understand office routines, regulations, and handle confidential information appropriately.
  • Accurate, organized, and able to complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • CPR/BLS Certified
