As Chief Physician Emeritus, Dr. Kalauawa provides direct patient care and collaborates with the agency’s health care team, including physicians, physician assistants, family nurse practitioners and other clinical staff. He has been with Waikiki Health since 1986.

Dr. Kalauawa is a graduate of the University of Hawaiʻi’s School of Medicine and is a certified HIV Specialist through the American Academy of HIV Medicine. He has received numerous awards for his work with HIV/AIDS patients and for his dedicated service to both his patients and the community.

Dr. Kalauawa values the sense of connection he feels with his patients: “I was raised in public housing in Palolo Valley and many of my patients share this same type of background. I feel very comfortable interacting with these patients. In fact, you could say that I feel at home around them. I try to help them as much as I can.”
